The Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board established in accordance with Section 44 of the Planning Act. The Committee is responsible for making decisions on consent applications, minor variance applications, enlargement of existing non-conforming uses, and other technical matters set out by the provisions of the Planning Act.

Mandate
The Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial Committee appointed under Section 44 of the Ontario Planning Act, and in the Town of Mono has jurisdiction to make decisions on consent applications (severances) and applications for minor variance to Zoning Bylaw 78-1
While severances and minor variances make up the majority of the workload, the committee also has jurisdiction over other matters set out in Section 45 of the Planning Act (long-term private agreements/leases, extensions to non conforming uses) although these applications are rare.
Organization
The Committee of Adjustment is made up of 5 members, appointed by Council, and are local residents not sitting on Town Council. The committee works with the Secretary-Treasurer & Director of Planning. The committee does not report to Council or staff, and their decisions are only appealable to the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal (LPAT).
Meetings
Meetings are typically held the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, as needed, but under Provincial COVID provisions, may be held another day and time and as a virtual meeting online.
