Media Release: $10,000 In Provincial Funding Provides New Outdoor Recreation Opportunity for Residents

Mono, ON – On Sunday, Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin — Caledon, met with the Town of Mono Recreation Department Staff at Mono’s Winterfest to launch Mono’s new Snowshoe Lending Library. This program was made possible thanks to provincial funding through a $10,000 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). “This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will help support the Town of Mono’s outdoor programs,” said MPP Sylvia Jones. “The 47 pairs of snowshoes for residents to borrow and use encourages increased outdoor physical activity in our community.” With monies received from this grant, town staff purchased 47 pairs of snowshoes ranging in sizes from children to adult. Residents can reserve the snowshoes each Tuesday on the Town’s website, pick them up on Thursday and enjoy them until Monday when they need to be returned. This free program, which began on January 11th, offers a new physical and social recreation opportunity for residents to enjoy and experience Ontario’s fabulous outdoor winters. “With the funding made available to us through the OTF, residents are now able to experience and enjoy a winter activity that normally has expenses associated with it, thus allowing us to breakdown barriers to participation,” as stated by Emma Holmes, Recreation Assistant for the Town of Mono. “Our snowshoe lending library is a great way for residents to stay physically active, explore the outdoors and enjoy the beauty of Mono during the winter months”. The Town of Mono commits to preserve the natural heritage bequeathed to us by earlier generations, to provide services to residents that are safe, sustainable and affordable, and to balance our environment and economic success in a respectful and equitable manner.
