If you live on a property with a private well, you should be getting your well water tested for bacteria at least three times a year. Harmful bacteria in your drinking water can make you sick with stomach cramps and diarrhea.
How Do I Test My Well Water?
- You can pick up a sampling bottle from Mono's Town Hall or from a participating Public Health office.
- Follow the instructions provided with the sampling bottle to take your sample and fully complete the included form.
The instructions you receive include information about how you can receive results and interpret results after it has been tested.
- Drop off the sample at at a Public Health office that accepts the samples. You can find a list local to Dufferin County on the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health's website. You can find other accepting locations on the Public Health Ontario website. The laboratory will have your well result four to five business days after drop off.
For more information about how to disinfect your well and how to avoid contamination, please review the resources provided by the local Public Health Unit.
