The following are updates about the situation in Mono following the ice storm. You will find information and resources on this page, as well as services available to residents from the Town.
April 4, 2025 Update
Downed Trees and Limbs on Town Roads:
- Tree debris cleanup on roads is ongoing and will continue to be prioritized accordingly
Downed Trees and Limbs: Urban & Rural Residents
- Tree limbs less than 3 inches in diameter can be cut into lengths not exceeding 4 feet with a maximum weight of 20 kilograms or 44 pounds and bundled for future pickup by GFL. DO NOT place at the roadside until informed about GFL pickup schedule
- Yard waste pickup begins next week in Orangeville and in rural areas and continues the week of April 14 The schedule can be found online.
- For all Urban and Rural residents: the Mono Landfill will be open for tree and brush debris:
- Wednesday, May 21 from 8 am – 1 pm
- Saturday, May 24 from 8 am – 3 pm
- Wednesday, May 28 from 8 am – 1 pm
- Saturday, May 31 from 8 am – 3 pm
- Additional dates before May 21 are being evaluated based on resident need
- For Urban residents: contact Public Works about tree debris larger than what GFL will pickup
Tips for Debris Cleanup:
- Stay safe. Wear protective gear such as gloves, safety glasses and head protection when handling debris. As you clear debris, look carefully for any visible cables — such as electrical lines. If you see any cables, wait for professionals to handle them.
- Be aware of your surroundings and check for hanging branches or limbs that could fall
- Check with local officials before placing debris for collection.
- Place debris away from trees, poles, or structures including fire hydrants and utility metres
- Do not block roadways with debris
Message for Rural Residents
- Stockpile tree debris on your own property
- Contact Public Works if material is in the right of way or if there are issues with drainage
Hydro
- Hydro One's outage map identifies approximately 100 Mono residents who are still without power. Please ensure generators are being operated safely

Parks, Trails, and Tracts
- Parks, trails, and tracts have reopened
- Even though these areas are open, cleanup is ongoing. Please direct any concerns to our Recreation department: 519.941.3599, ext. 239
April 1, 2025 Update
- Mono parks, trails, and tracts remain closed
- 4,500 customers in Dufferin County are still without power
- Keep generators away from your home and learn how to safely operate a generator
- Follow recommended practices for ensuring food safety during power outages
- Phone charging is available at Mono Town Hall during regular business hours (8:30 AM to 4:00 PM). Bring your own chargers
- You must have a fire permit if you plan on burning tree debris
- Tree limbs less than 3 inches in diameter can be cut into lengths not exceeding 4 feet and bundled for future pickup by GFL. DO NOT place at the roadside until informed about GFL pickup schedule
- Mono is working on plans for accepting larger trees/limbs
Water Refill Station
The water refill station will remain open until Friday, April 4 at 4:00 PM. Water containers are still available for those who do not have their own.
What Else to Know
- Anticipate more bad weather in the coming days, including the possibility of more or ongoing power outages.
- Stock up on supplies to be prepared in the event/continuation of extended loss of power
March 31, 2025 Update
Parks, Trails, and Tracts Are Closed
Due to downed trees and trees and tree limbs continuing to fall, parks, trails, and tracts are closed until further notice.
Power
Power has been restored to many suburban areas.
There are still lots of rural areas without power. You can check the Hydro One outage map for more information. Hydro One crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power.
Generators
Make sure your generator is away from your house. Exhaust needs to be directed away from the house, air intakes (furnace, gas hot water heater intakes, etc.), and windows. The exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a dangerous and odourless gas.
Downed Trees, Tree Limbs
There are a large number of downed trees and tree limbs in Mono and it will take weeks to clean up.
Water
The Town of Mono has made a water refill station available at Mono Town Hall (347209 Mono Centre Road). There are a limited number of 5 gallon water containers for residents who do not have refillable containers. The containers are available on a first come, first served basis while quantities last.
Hours:
- March 31, 2025: Open until 4:00 PM
- April 1, 2025: Open from 8:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Drinking Water Systems
Town drinking water systems ran without interruption during the power outages. Hydro is functioning at both municipal drinking water systems. There have been no concerns with the drinking water quality throughout the storm and drinking water continues to be safe.
What Else to Know
- Anticipate more bad weather in the coming days, including the possibility of more or ongoing power outages.
- Take stock of your food and supplies and prepare as necessary.
Recommended Actions
- Top up gasoline jerry cans now that many gas stations are open.
- Ensure you have sufficient food and water.
- Check your medications and any home health care supplies.
