Walking in the Winter Wonderland
When winter comes, there is still plenty to do in Mono, including walking and snowshoeing. Many people are familiar with the provincial parks at Mono Cliffs and Hockley Valley, and of course the Bruce Trail traverses the Town from bottom to top.
Two lesser-known gems are the Town’s forest tracts: the 1926 Tract on 4th Line south of 15 Sideroad, and the Anderson Tract on 15 Sideroad east of 4th Line. Both of these 100-acre tracts have a variety of marked trails through hilly terrain, enough to give you a good workout and keep you warm on the coldest day.
It would also be possible to cross-country ski in the forest tracts, but only expert back-country skiers should attempt this, as there are some very steep hills in both tracts.
Check out the Hiking Map for the location of the two less-known forest tracts and many more hiking trails in Mono.
