The Town’s contractor will be conducting applications for invasive species in the coming weeks to both roadsides and Storm Water Management Ponds (SWMP). Such maintenance will include the application of a herbicide or pesticide, approved by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) or Health Canada, to control invasive species, by a licensed specialist.
Phragmites has and continues to cause damage to Ontario’s biodiversity and can damage ecosystems for decades, specifically, wetlands, beaches, and storm water infrastructure.
