At its meeting on September 10, 2024, Council received the 2024 Road Management Plan (2025– 2034).prepared by the Town’s engineer, RJ Burnside. In preparation for the road management plan, the town’s road network was assessed. The assessment took place during the spring to evaluate the roads during the spring thaw, the time when roads will be their worst.
The Town’s paved roads were assessed at a satisfactory average of about 73 PCI (pavement condition index). Most municipalities strive to achieve a PCI of at least 70.
Gravel roads were also assessed and obtained a gravel condition rating (GCR) based on structural adequacy, drainage adequacy, and ride comfort rating. Results of the assessment are contained in the following table:
While the report does not recommend converting any gravel roads to asphalt, to maintain the road network as currently assessed would require an average capital and maintenance budget increase of $600,00 annually.
