When driving, please slow down and watch for wildlife. Turtles are searching for a nesting location to lay their eggs right now. You will likely see many along the sides of roads and trails, especially close to bridges and wetlands.
What Should You Do?
- The most important thing is never put yourself or others in danger. Slow down, especially through wild spaces or when driving near wetlands.
- If you must and feel comfortable moving the turtle, lift it by the back of its shell. Never lift a turtle by the tail.
- Only move a turtle in the direction it is heading. Do not move the turtle to a new area as it may try to return to its home area and cross dangerous areas to do so.
