The Town will be conducting maintenance on some of its Storm Water Management Ponds (SWMP) over the coming weeks. Such maintenance will include the application of a herbicide to control invasive Phragmites, by a licensed invasive plant specialist. Phragmites has, and continues to cause damage to Ontario’s biodiversity and has the ability to damage ecosystems for decades, specifically, wetlands and beaches. If not properly managed, it can also reduce the functionality of storm water infrastructure. At that time, a second licensed contractor will visit the treated sites to cut the plant. The Town will continue to monitor these areas and treat the areas in the future, as required.
