Heavy rainfall throughout CVC’s region tapered off last evening. Yesterday, August 18, 2024, more than 55 mm of rain was recorded in the Island Lake area with 30 mm falling in less than 15 minutes. CVC’s rain gauge at Carolyn Creek at Creditview Road in Mississauga recorded more than 110 mm. Less than 50 mm of rain was recorded at other gauges throughout the Credit River Watershed. Environment Canada is not expecting heavy rain, but some showers are expected today; no rain is expected in the coming days.
Water levels in Island Lake and most of the creeks in Mississauga remain very high. The ground is at saturation point in most areas. Areas around culverts, bridges, and dams remain unsafe. People are warned to stay away from them and to keep children and pets away.
CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety will be in effect through Tuesday, August 20 or until further notice.
