The Town of Mono will be starting to apply calcium chloride to the gravel roads on May 9th, 2024 (weather permitting). The application takes approximately one month to reach all Town roads, depending on the weather. This year we will begin with gravel roads in the southeast portion of Mono. Calcium chloride has been used for more than a century as an effective and affordable gravel road stabilizer with dust suppressant benefits. When applied in liquid form, it attracts moisture from the air. Even under dry, hot conditions, it forms a solution that keeps the road damp and dust-free. This moisture binds fine aggregate particles together, creating a hard compacted surface that improves stability over time with regular, seasonal applications.
