Staying Safe Online: How to Catch a Phish
The theme of this year's Cyber Security Month is Phishing.
What Is Phishing?
It is a malicious attempt to get your sensitive information (passwords, credit card numbers, etc.) from you or a business by pretending to be a well-known brand or trustworthy source. Usually this is done for financial gain.
What Can I Do?
Did you get an email or text telling you that your account is compromised or someone else has gained access? If you receive a suspicious message, don’t click any links. Go directly to the website and check if there are any messages or warnings when you log in.
Report scams, fraud, spam, and more online: cyber.gc.ca (press the report a cyber incident button).
This site also has advisories, alerts, and lots more to help keep you informed and safe while browsing online.
You can help raise awareness by sharing cyber security resources on your social media accounts using the hashtag: #CyberMonth2022. A great resource to share resources from is the Government of Canada's Get Cyber Safe website.
