POSITION PURPOSE

Public Works is seeking a team-oriented and motivated individual to join our Public Works team.  As a Public Works employee, you will be a part of a team of individuals that carries out important tasks to ensure safety standards on Town roads, properties and infrastructure are upheld.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties only represents the core responsibilities to be performed.  This position will also require additional duties as required by the Public Works Department.

  • Operation of heavy equipment, including snowplow, graders, trackless, and other related equipment.
  • Maintenance of municipal owned properties, equipment and fleet.
  • Manual labour consisting of but not limited to;
    • Shoulder maintenance & potholes repair;
    • Culvert & drainage repairs;
    • Debris and litter pickup; and
    • Roadside brushing and vegetation control.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class G driver’s license in good standing.
  • Class AZ or DZ driver’s license in good standing.
  • Experience with snow removal and/or heavy equipment operation.
  • Perform daily logbook entry, fleet pre-trip inspections and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, The Highway Traffic Act, OTM Book 7 for proper set up of Traffic Control Devices.
  • Knowledge of the Minimum Maintenance Standards, Ontario Regulation 239/02 is an asset.

COMPENSATION

The Winter Seasonal Operator position on the Town’s 2024 salary grid from, $29.66 to $34.69 (Job Rate), and is based on a 44-hour work week.  

HOURS OF WORK

Hours of work shall be 44 hours per week, Monday to Friday with potential for Weekend call ins.  Legislated benefits (vacation pay, stat holidays, overtime pay etc.) will be in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
