At its March 25 meeting, Council gave first reading to a bylaw to regulate and licence the keeping of backyard chickens within the Town of Mono. The proposed bylaw would establish a 4-year trial program to licence and regulate backyard chickens on residentially zoned properties outside of the Rural (A) Zone (e.g., subdivisions). Responses to the survey, whether it is the paper survey or online survey, must be submitted before June 16, 2025.
Review the proposed bylaw:
Please note: "backyard chickens" is defined in the bylaw as: the accessory keeping of hens for the purpose of companionship as a pet or providing eggs for personal consumption by occupants of a dwelling on the same lot and does not include accessory livestock, or agricultural uses otherwise defined by the Town of Mono Zoning By-law.
If you cannot access the online survey or prefer to fill out a physical copy of the survey, you can find the .pdf version below. If you print out a completed survey, you must mail or drop it off to Town Hall (347209 Mono Centre Road, Mono, ON L9W 6S3) ATTN: Chicken Bylaw.
