Flood Damage Data Collection

On June 23rd, 2017, Mono received 113 mm of rain in approximately 3 hours. The NVCA called it an 100 year rain event with significant flooding occurring throughout the municipality, especially within the floodplain of the Hockley Valley.

The Town of Mono is working with the province to implement the provincial “Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians” program which provides financial assistance to private landowners following natural disasters. In order to determine the extent of the damage, the Town is asking residents who were impacted by the flooding to complete a short survey.

Mono will provide the information to the province who will determine whether they will initiate their disaster funding in the community. If initiated, the Province of Ontario will then make the decision as to whether Mono residents are deemed eligible to access any available funding programs.

The survey can be completed online at

Hard copies of the survey can be picked up at the Municipal Office located at 347209 Mono Centre Road.

Please note that this is not a claim form and no reimbursement or payment will be made based on this reporting form.

For further information, please contact the Municipal Office at 519.941.3599.

As was reported on the Town’s website and through social media, all Town of Mono and Dufferin County roads were open by Saturday morning. Town Roads Crews continue to repair edge of road and culvert washouts; however, have been hampered by ongoing rain. Stabilization of washouts will continue over the next several weeks.

We are working with the province to implement the provincial “Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians” program which provides financial assistance to private landowners following natural disasters. More information about this program and eligibility is available at

Residents are cautioned to remain clear of watercourses as many are still running high. Please refer to Credit Valley Conservation and Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority websites for the latest flood updates.

Care should also be exercised if your private well was near any flooded areas. More information on private well safety is available on Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph’s website at

The Town wants to recognize and thank the efforts of both Town & County Roads Crews and First Responders for their efforts during the flood event.

2017 Fire Hydrant Flushing

Please be aware that from April 24 to June 30, 2017 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week Water Works Staff will be completing fire hydrant flushing and maintenance of the Cardinal Woods & the Coles/Island Lake/Purple Hill water systems. The programs are completed on a regular basis to ensure the fire hydrants remain in good working order and that any accumulated sediments in the watermains are removed.

Due to possible sedimentation, the flushing may cause discolouration of the water, so please check your cold water supply before using. If discolouration does occur, let the cold water run until it clears.

Users are also reminded that Water Works Staff will continue to regularly flush fire hydrants in some areas on subsequent Wednesdays as part of an ongoing maintenance program. Again, the water should be checked for discolouration before use on those days.

Your cooperation and understanding during the fire hydrant flushing and maintenance program is appreciated.
