A A A

Saturday dawned cool and dry, something we haven't seen much of this summer. The volunteers started showing up shortly after 7 a.m. dressed for the 3° temperature though the heavy dew called for shoes more suitable for wet weather. By 8:30 the kids, with parents in tow, started arriving. What started out as a trickle turned into a wave as families woke up to one of the most gorgeous weekends of the summer and headed over to Mono Community Centre for the 6th annual Mono On A Bike.

Checking in, each young rider received a water bottle, had their bicycle thoroughly inspected by Cycling Elements followed by a helmet check. Those who needed a bell for their bike received one courtesy of Cycling Elements. Other swag included wrist bands & soft-sided coolers.

Once bikes and riders were checked out, they received 15 minutes of bike safety instruction by Can-Bike certified instructors and those who wanted could test their skills on the bicycle confidence course.

Then at 11 a.m. all 75+ parents and kids took to the road to ride the 7.5 km route that rolled its way through Mono Centre and along several trails in Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. Everyone ended up back at the community centre for a barbeque.

This year's Mono On A Bike was a non competitive family fun ride and the new format appears to be a hit. We want to thank our volunteers and sponsors without whom we could never put on such a successful family event.
