TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay will be a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities. Deeply rooted in history and tradition, the Pan Am flame will be lit in May 2015 during a traditional ceremony in Teotihuacan, Mexico, before it travels to Canada.

The torch relay will start in Canada on May 30, 2015, and will make its final stop on July 10, 2015, at the Opening Ceremony of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games.

Torch Relay Route

The relay will visit Mono on the afternoon of Friday June 12th

The map below shows the route of the torch relay through Mono Centre, with a stop at Mono Community Centre from 5:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Pan Am Torchbearers

Mono is proud to announce Ethan Lawson as the Mono community torchbearer and
Ross Millar as Alternate Method of Transport - Horse torchbearer.

Ethan attends Orangeville District Secondary School where he and is on both the basketball and volleyball teams. He also plays hockey and is a long distance runner. In the winter, Ethan is an avid snowboarder.

Unique to the Torch Relay in Mono, the torch will be carried for a portion of the route on horseback. Ross Millar, President of RMG, will carry the torch while other member's of the local equine community, also on horseback, ride as a group.

Community Celebration

The Pan Am flame will visit Mono Community Centre, in Mono Centre from 5:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. on June 12th.

The torch will be driven by car from the Pan Am Cross-Country Centre to a point about 50 metres east of the entrance to Mono Cliff's Provincial Park and is due to arrive there at 5:15 p.m. The torch will then be transferred to Ross Millar, who will carry it on horseback, along with other members of the local equine community, also on horseback. Ross will carry the torch westbound on Mono Centre Road. Part way to Mono Community Centre, Ross will hand the torch over to Mono Community Torchbearer, Ethan Lawson. Ethan will then carry the torch to Mono Community Centre, arriving at the Centre at about 5:25 p.m. Once at Mono Community Centre, the flame will be transferred to a Torch Stand for the 30 minutes that it will remain at the Centre.

At 6 p.m. the flame will be transferred back to a handheld torch and head on its way, by a series of torchbearers, from the Community Centre along Mono Centre Road towards Orangeville.

The Town will be hosting a Community Celebration at Mono Community Centre starting at 4 p.m. and running until the flame departs at 6 p.m.

There will be live music performed by LocoMono, a barbeque, activities for kids including kite flying, face painting, a juggler and more.

And it's all free.

Be sure to arrive early as Mono Centre Road will be closed between 2nd Line EHS and 3rd Line EHS from approximately 5:15 pm. to 5:30 p.m. Mono Centre Road will close again briefly from Mono Community Centre, southbound, when the torch relay departs at 6 p.m.

The party carries on in Orangeville & Caledon

Orangeville will be hosting a TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Torch Relay Community Celebration as well from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. On Saturday June 13th Caledon will include a celebration of the Torch Relay as part of Caledon Day.
