Digging in for a Good Cause! Volunteers Needed for Fall TD Tree Day Planting Events

Tree Day Volunteers
Volunteers needed for TD Tree Days events in Stayner, Shelburne and the Minesing Wetlands this September

UTOPIA, Ontario (Sept. 7, 2018) – The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) is looking for volunteers to plant trees in Simcoe and Dufferin counties.

On Saturday, September 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers will meet at the Clearview EcoPark in Stayner to plant 250 trees and shrubs along Lamont Creek.

The following week, on Sunday, September 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers will meet in Shelburne to plant 300 trees along Walters and Beasley Creeks.

Finally, on Saturday, September 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers will meet in the Minesing Wetlands near Utopia to plant 500 trees.

As they grow, these trees will shade the rivers and creeks and stabilize the stream bank, improving water quality. They’ll also create habitat for fish and aquatic life, and also the hundreds of species of birds and pollinators that live or migrate through our area.

These fun, green events are suitable for all ages, making them perfect for families and community groups. They are eligible events for students in need of high school volunteer hours.

All three of these planting days are part of TD Tree Days, a national program lead by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. These family-friendly events see volunteers planting trees to help the environment in their local community. NVCA is pleased to work with TD and other groups, including Clearview Township, the Town of Shelburne, and the Nature Conservancy of Canada on these events.

Find out more about events and sign-up to volunteer by visiting the NVCA website at www.nvca.on.ca or TD Tree Days at tdtreedays.com.
