2016 Earth Day

Earth Day Canada’s #Rooting4Trees campaign
Help Earth Day Canada grow the global forest on Earth Day and every day.
On Earth Day 2016 political leaders from around the world gather in New York to sign the Paris Climate Agreement. At the same time, the global network of Earth Day organizations are kicking off an ambitious campaign to plant 7.8 billion trees, one for every person on the planet, by 2020.
Canada’s contribution to this worldwide goal is 35 million trees - one per person in Canada.
The Town of Mono has undertaken to plant 29,400 trees in a Town owned property on the 3rd Line EHS. The trees will be planted in partnership with the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority.
The bulk of the cost to purchase the seedlings was obtained through a provincial grant. The Town's share of the cost was $4,900 and the NVCA will be overseeing the planting.
Perimeter & Roadside Clean-up
The Town is encouraging residents to clean-up any garbage along the perimeter of their lots and along the road allowance adjacent to their property. To facilitate this, residents can pickup, free of charge, 2 garbage tags and two clear garbage bags, from the municipal office during April.
These tags can then be used on your regular garbage pick-up day immediately following Earth Day.
And while we are on the subject of Roadside cleanup, why not consider the County's Adopt-A-Road program? The Adopt-A-Road program gives citizens and/or organizations a chance to keep our environment clean by picking up litter along our roads. For details, visit the County's website.
Heritage Tree Program
And for all you forward thinking people who ordered trees as part of the Town's Heritage Tree & Seedling Program, your trees will be available for pickup Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the works garage, next door to the Municipal Office.
Over 6,000 trees where pre-ordered last fall as part of this annual program that sees the Town offer 16 species of heritage trees and seedlings at better than market prices. More that 35,000 trees have been planted since this program began over five years ago. Way to go Mono !
