The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) is looking for volunteers to help plant trees and restore streamside habitat across the Nottawasaga Valley watershed.

Tree planting is scheduled for Edenvale Conservation Area on September 23rd, 2016; Minesing Wetlands on September 25th, 2016; and for the Baker Tract in Mono on October 2nd, 2016. These morning plants are suitable for all ages, making them perfect for families, community groups, and students in need of high school volunteer hours.

Volunteers are needed to cut livestakes at various locations on October 20 and 21, 2016. These cuttings, taken from local willows, dogwoods and other trees, are used to stabilize and replant stream banks in the late fall and early spring.

No experience is necessary to participate! Biologists from the NVCA will be on hand at each event to give a “tree planting 101” demo and talk about these amazing local natural areas. Volunteers should come prepared for all weather with sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, work gloves and a bottle of water. If possible, volunteers are asked to BYOS (bring your own shovel).

The Minesing and Baker Tract events are part of TD Tree Days, a national program lead by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. These family-friendly plants see volunteers plant trees to help the environment in their local community. The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority is pleased to work with TD and other groups, including the Nature Conservancy Canada and the Headwater Streams Committee, on these events.

To sign up for volunteer day and help “plant a future forest”, visit the events page of the NVCA website.
